Our History
Clark Funeral Home traces its beginnings to 1912, when Fred Julian Clark, Sr. founded the business in Hawkinsville, Georgia under the name Fred J. Clark. Two years later, in 1914, the firm became known as Fred Julian Clark Furniture and Undertaking, reflecting the customs of the time.
In 1927, Fred Julian Clark, Jr. joined his father in the business. After graduating from the Cincinnati College of Embalming in 1929, he returned to Hawkinsville, and the name was formally changed to Clark Funeral Home. An open house was held on December 21, 1939, in the building the funeral home continues to occupy today.
During the 1940s, David Clark became a partner alongside his father and brother, and together they guided the funeral home through decades of service until the passing of Fred Julian Clark. Another open house was held on June 29, 1969, marking updates to the building in its present form.
Following the deaths of Fred Clark, Jr. and David Clark, the funeral home was operated by Fred J. Clark, III. In 2010, Christopher Holmes Clark joined the staff as a licensed funeral director and embalmer, becoming the fourth generation of the Clark family to serve families through the funeral home.
Today, Clark Funeral Home continues its legacy of courteous, sympathetic service to the Hawkinsville community.
