Sylvia Kay Bergh ("Mrs. Kay") passed away on Saturday, April 9th, at Bryant Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cochran. Funeral Services will be held at 2p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at the Hawkinsville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Varnell and Rev. Marcus Tripp officiating. The services will be livestreamed from the Hawkinsville First United Methodist Church's Facebook page at the following link www.facebook.com/hawkinsvillemethodist.church/
The family will greet friends at the church from 1p.m. to 2p.m. prior to the service.
She was born in Moultrie, Georgia, on September 25th, 1934, to loving parents Grace Pittman Johnson and Dr. Marcus Blake Johnson. She grew up in Thomasville and Tifton. She graduated from Wesleyan College with a degree in sociology. Mrs. Kay taught school for several years and then finished her career as a social worker with the Pulaski County Department of Family and Children Services. Some of her happiest moments were spent teaching her little first graders how to read. A true Southern lady, she loved her family and her friends, children, animals (especially her pets), books, music, theatre, and dance.
Mrs. Bergh was preceded in death by her sweet husband, Charles Morris Bergh. She is survived by her daughter and her son-in-law, Beverly and Milton Sutherlin of Hawkinsville, and her son and her daughter-in-law, Blake and Lesa Bergh of Cochran. Her grandchildren are Brandon and Christie Bergh, J.C. Bergh and Emily Rowell, Ansley and Lonnie Giddens, and Caley and Tyler Allen. Her great-grandchildren are Chandler Bergh, Deacon Giddens, David Giddens, and Ryman Allen. Her beloved aunt is Ann Pittman Cook of Cordele.
