Josie Jenelle Stokes

Mrs. Josie Jenelle Stokes, age 94, passed away on January 20, 2026 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 3p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026 at Clark Funeral Home. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1p.m. to 3p.m. in the chapel of Clark Funeral Home. Burial will be private in the family plot at Orange Hill Cemetery.

Janelle was born April 5, 1931 to Joe and Minton Brady Passmore in Cochran, Georgia. She moved to Hawkinsville, Georgia when she was five years old. She graduated from Hawkinsville High School in 1949. Janelle went to work in Opelika Mill in 1950 and worked there until 1985. She then worked at Pulaski Head Start and Pre-K school until the year 2000.

She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church since 1956, where she served anywhere, she was needed. Mrs. Stokes was the church clerk and treasurer from 1965 to 2023 and had received perfect Sunday School attendance pins for 50 years of perfect attendance.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Minton Passmore, her husband Rufus Stokes, brothers, Kenzie (Man) Passmore, Dennis Passmore and Joeboy Passmore, all of Hawkinsville.

Those left to cherish her loving memories are her daughter, Cindy (Bruce) Stevenson of Cordele, Georgia; son, Stevie (Howie) Mullis of Greensville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Josie (Ellis) Morgan, Kristy Stevenson, David (Melody) Mullis, Heather (Brian) Owens and Charlie Mullis; seven great grandchildren, Belle (Ricky) White, Royce (Emilie) Owens, Lydia Morgan, Brady Morgan, Damion Mullis, Dagan Mullis and Drake Mullis; four great-great grandchildren, Landyn Bennett, Graclynn Owens, Kinslee Mullis and Jason Owens; four sisters, Josephine Coleman, Billy Faye Crawford, Tyine Scarborough and Nickie (Allen) Morrow. Special friend, Susan Brown.
