Hawkinsville

James Robert “Bobby” Dixon, Jr., age 76, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

A native of Hawkinsville, Bobby graduated from Hawkinsville High School in 1967 and went on to serve in the United States Air Force, where he worked with and trained military K-9s. He brought home many stories from his time in Vietnam—a few of which he told.

After his service, Bobby earned a degree in Chemistry from the University of Georgia. He was a man of strength and grit, having faced serious medical challenges over the last 40 years with unshakable toughness. Independent to the end, Bobby lived life his own way.

He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and Georgia football, and he always had a deep love for dogs—especially a good quail dog. Among the many he cared for over the years, his Jack Russell terrier, Buddy, held a special place in his heart. Bobby’s ashes will be laid to rest alongside Buddy, who passed away last year.

He was a member of the Baptist faith and was formerly active in the VFW.

Bobby was especially close to his cousin, David Rackley of Hawkinsville, who was like a brother to him. He also shared a meaningful bond with Ellen Anderson, with whom he shared a deep companionship in recent years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Robert Dixon, Sr. and Edith Rucker Dixon, and his brother William Terry Dixon.

Bobby is survived by his son, James Robert Dixon, III (Shauna); his grandchildren, William Dixon and Kaitlyn Dixon; and many cousins.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Orange Hill Cemetery in Hawkinsville, Georgia. Arrangements are being handled by Clark Funeral Home.
