Wednesday morning, Dwight Gatlin, affectionately known throughout Georgia as “OT” or “Ole Timer,” peacefully took his final breath in his sleep.
Dwight lived a life rooted in family, friendship, and a deep love for his community. For much of his life, coaching youth sports was one of Dwight’s greatest passions. He spent many years sharing that passion passed down from his father in Warner Robins before relocating to Hawkinsville, where he quickly became involved in the local recreational sports community. He found great joy in being around the kids, supporting their teams, and being part of something bigger than the game itself. As his own children grew older, his role naturally evolved from coach to one of Hawkinsville’s most loyal supporters. He became a familiar and enthusiastic face cheering on the Hawkinsville Red Devils on the sidelines and in the stands.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 14, 2026 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Clark Funeral Home with a visitation following the service at Dwight's house at 239 Eastman Hwy. Hawkinsville Ga.
Dwight was someone who took pride in his hometown and he was loved by many. His absence will be felt throughout the community he was so proud to call home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ethel Gatlin of Warner Robins, his beloved wife, Debbie Gatlin of Hawkinsville, and his daughter in law, Joan Gatlin, of Bartow Florida.
He leaves behind three children, Nancy-Ellen Martin (Brian), Sam Gatlin, and Shane Savant (Holly); seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward a part of his legacy.
In lieu of flowers, OT would have welcomed love offerings made in his memory to the Hawkinsville-Pulaski Recreation Department or the Big Red Booster Club.
Clark Funeral Home of Hawkinsville, Georgia is in charge of the arrangements.
